23.10.25 Speeding up in test field

 Still a lot of work to do, before the ground freezes. Renovated my older bed: Voles do not like gravel, so this one goes with gravel this time. I have to add more to have more weight in this bed. Only few plants here, all planted in protective nets.  This is a view from the distance in the direction of my conifers spot, which is, as I think, fully reflecting current autumn spirits:

 I’ve been working on new conifers recently. A few new conifers were added: Abies alba ‘Green Spiral’ Pinus parviflora ‘Negishi’ Cupressus arizonica ‘Aurea’ All conifers serve one main purpose: wind screen for my plantings. But of course, I want to integrate another goal into that main purpose, which is - creating a small collection of unusual conifers. It would be great to try them out in our climate and to monitore their performance, too.  Some conifers were added previously. They have been looking quite ok so far: Pinus mugo ‘Carsten’s Wintergold’ Pinus strobus ‘Pendula’ Abies koreana ‘Kohout’s Icebreaker’ Infortunately, I lost two conifers this year: 1) Picea pungens ‘Super Blue Seedling’ 2) Chamaecyparis lawsoniana ‘Wissel’s Saguaro’. The first one was planted in the end of november and looked good until may. Then it began to shed needles and turned dead towards the end of summer.
