11.5.26 Starting a new round of rose hybridizations

This time I will make a lot of hybridizations with ‚blue‘ or coffee–colored roses.

I started with a few crosses a couple of days ago.

By the way, here is a comparison of my seedling (Florence Delattre x Charles de Gaulle)  – on the left with a commercial variety ‚Chateau Myrtille‘ – on the right:









Another new rose I am using for breeding is ‚Distant Drums‘. The blooms are easy to work with, I hope it can „take“ pollen well. The bush looks rather upright, I would like to cross it to some rose which is more overhanging in shape. 










Next rose I am working with is ‚Love Song‘. Really big bloom. Pollen is resleased with ease. No idea how it ‚takes‘, but we will see.










And of course, a „classic rose“ I have been using each season — ‚Blue For You‘.



 







Now, to seedlings.

So far, there is only one seedling from the cross  (Claire Marshall x Blue for You) x For Your Eyes Only which was able to show at least a slight blotch:










I will keep this one to see what‘s next.

Hello! I hybridize roses and daylilies, trying to produce new varieties of a gardener‘s interest. Here I give an insight into my routine work with plants, mainly with hybridization, nursering young plants, selection process and all my ups and downs during this exciting journey. 4.12.25 Overwintering seedlings and more

 There are some seedlings of this year left to overwinter in my rooftop garden. They are all late–germinants, many haven‘t bloomed yet… So I wasn‘t able to do any selection here. Even now it is clear how different they are, some retain foliage fully, some only partially and some not at all.  I am often asked did it get easier to cull seedlings, and the anwer was — no. It does not get any ‚easier‘ in a way of a spiritual burden, BUT it is inevitable to cull most of them. Now, as I got about hundred of pre–selected seedlings (after some years), it takes more and more effort to care for them, to propagate and to keep them going. 9.8.25 Test Field

 Yesterday we cleaned the hem beds and a big rose seedling bed, despite terrible heat.
